Out of My Control (1983)

Words and Music ©1983, 2013 by Dallas Denny
I wrote Out of My Control in 1983, when I was living in Greeneville, Tennessee and very much in love. I was in a garage band called Off the Wall, and the performed it as a duet (I’m neither sing nor play). The song works wonderfully with two people.
In the third recording, Doug Harvey sings and plays. He includes a later verse which changes the song considerably.
The first recording? That’s all me. I recorded the track on 4 December, 2013.
Out of My Control
I didn’t want to love you
It was out of my control
Like the sun coming up in the morning
And being born
And growing old
Like the way your feet start moving
When you hear that rock and roll
I didn’t want to love you
It was out of my control
I didn’t want to need you
I was happy all alone
And I had always thought
That I could make it on my own
But everybody sometimes
Needs someone to hold
I didn’t want to need you
It was out of my control
Didn’t want to want you
But you kindled my desire
And everything you did
Was only fuel thrown on the fire
You came to me gently
Like a lamb comes to the fold
I didn’t want to want you
It was out of my control
I didn’t want to love you
It was out of my control
Like the sun coming up in the morning
And being born
And growing old
Like the way your feet start moving
When you hear that rock and roll
I didn’t want to love you
It was out of my control
(Optional verse)
I didn’t want to lose you
It was out of my control
And now I have to face the thought
Of growing old alone
I thought it was forever
But I wound up on my own
I didn’t want to lose you
It was out of my control
