Baby Blew Away

By Dallas Denny

Morning

The sun shines through the window, hits her pillow

I still can smell her perfume on the covers

On her pillow lies a single golden hair

Here in the bed we used to share

Breakfast

Two places at the table, one stands empty

I’m choking down my corn flakes, I miss her cooking

And reflected in an empty plate my hand

One golden ring, one lonely man

Refrain:

Her love dried up and baby blew away

But I’m hoping like the robin

She’ll come singing back some day

There was nothing I could do to make her stay

Her love dried up and baby blew away

Nighttime

Her half of the closet bare of hangers

God, I miss her clutter on the dresser

And how I hate to face that empty bed

Oh, how I hate that empty bed

Refrain:

Her love dried up and Baby blew away

But I’m hoping like the robin

She’ll come singing back some day

There was nothing I could do to make her stay

Her love dried up and baby blew away

(Optional Verse)

Friday

Suppose I’ll stay around here for the weekend

Guess I could watch a ball game or go drinking

This empty life is more than I can bear

Here in this house

We used to share
