Dining With the Privileged

I will never again

allow a restaurant tab to be divided

by the number in the party

when dining with companions

who sneer when I order a hamburger

never considering I chose it

because it was the cheapest thing on the menu

and would rather have had the scallops at market price

and who excuse themselves when the check arrives

leaving less than their fair share

and requiring those of us with less money

to subsidize their effrontery
