Feminist Frequency
Anita Sarkeesian is the creator of Feminist Frequency, a series of webcasts that describe and depict the stereotyped and derogatory ways in which female characters are portrayed in video games.
Anita’s videos are richly illustrated with screen captures from hundreds of video games, and she is spot-on on her analyses.
Not surprisingly, Anita finds the default player in the videogame genre is male. Since the days of Donkey Kong, females, when they do appear, are almost always portrayed as victims for the male hero to rescue. They are stereotypically helpless, and are often subject to extreme violence and sexist jokes.
Here’s Anita’s latest video, if WordPress will allow me.
